'Increasing attacks upon women in Tripura under BJP’s Beti-Bachao, Beti-Padhao mission’, alleges opposition CPI-M

AGARTALA, June 6 (TIWN): Tripura CPI-M State Secretary Bijan Dhar on Tuesday has charged the BJP Govt in Tripura for being silent against the increasing crime against women in the state. From beating girls, women in the open market to attack upon SFI leader Nilanjana Roy the CPI-M State Secretary Bijan Dhar alleged, at least 100 women were attacked in last two and half months under BJP govt, whereas no proper justice is expected. Referring attack upon Nilanjana incident, Dhar further mentioned, "Forget about SFI leader but Nilanjana is a girl. The way they attacked her, it's very mean".

On the other side, voicing against the attack upon SFI leader Nilanjana Roy CPI-M's student wings and youth wings SFI, TSU, DYFI, TYF held protest rally here in Agartala today. The CPI-M activists raised slogan saying with the increasing attacks upon CPI-M, the protests will also be increased. 

“Few miscreants in the presence of Police had attacked Tripura SFI’s top leader Nilanjana Roy on Sunday evening entering her home. Not only Nalnajana but her mother and family members were also brutally attacked in that incident led mass tension among the locals across Bankumari. Nilanjana was pulled from her room and openly beaten by those miscreants. When she tried to run inside house, her family members were also attacked”, Bijan Dhar said, listing at least100 females were attacked under BJP-era. 

On the other side Law Minister Ratan Lal Nath after Thursday’s cabinet meeting announced that Crime against Women increased a lot. The crime against women in CPI-M era had spiked at 86 %, whereas presently it’s less in numbers.

Ratan Lal Nath said, “The Govt is trying its best to totally stop the harassment upon women and crime against women but at the same time Govt has also taken up decisions about financial aids to the victims”.

Recently the Govt has announced about various hiked compensations for the rape and other crimes victims of Tripura.

The rape victims earlier used to get Rs. 50 thousands, whereas from now they will get Rs. 2 lakhs. In case of minor girl’s rape or sexual harassments also Govt will compensate Rs. 2 lakhs. Earlier minors were paid Rs. 20 thousands only.

In rehabilitation of victim of human trafficking was getting Rs. 20,000 and now they will get Rs. 1 lakh.For sexual assaults, earlier the victim was not paid but state got has declared Rs. 50000.

In case of death of a victim her family members to get Rs. 2 lakhs, in case of permanent disability has been hiked form Rs. 50,000 to Rs. 2 lakhs.

However, the Law Minister said this hikes in the compensations will help to reduce crime against women and at the same time will help the victim.

However the whole compensation was followed by the Central Govt’s existing rules.
