UDAIPUR,August 26 (TIWN): Even before the inauguration of the multi-crore Cultural Complex of Udaipur, serious debate arises as experts from Urban Development Department are learnt to have found some serious violations in the already completed construction that raised the question," Is it another wastage of huge amount of Govt money?" The newly constructed Cultural Complex involving a cost of more than 22 crores is scheduled to be inaugurated by Chief Minister Manik Sarkar on 6th September. But with less than three weeks' time before inauguration the Cultural Committee consisting of Left wings' loyal is now in dilemma how to make damage control.

     Last Sunday a high level team of Udaipur Municipal Council and the Left wings' Cultural Coordination Committee's members made a joint visit to the Cultural Complex. But the experts of Urban Development Department informed the team that they have found serious violations of the proposals made by the National School of Drama especially in the interior decoration. Urban Development Department asked the proposals from National School of Drama with the thought that if the stage is made as it is for performing a drama, it can be used for any kind of programme. But under pressure from the so called cultural workers of Left wings the construction agency simply denied the proposals of National School of Drama(NSD)  made some unrepairable blunders. Some of these are discussed below:-

1) NSD proposed the Light & Sound Control Unit at the back of the audience' seats but the construction agency built the Light & Sound Control Unit at the side of the stage from where it is totally difficult make the 'effect' properly

2) The stage itself is not fit for performance of mega theatre presentation

3) Gap between stage to audience seat is quite smaller to what the NSD proposed

4) NSD proposal was to keep width of the doors( entrance to stage from Green Room) 8ft each but the present width is less than 5ft making it extremely difficult for the support staff to take the previously prepared stage materials like structures in to the stage on emergency basis

5) No sitting arrangement in Green Room and VIP Room

6) An weight stand has been proposed for the back of the stage but no such arrangement was made. Rather, due to lack of enough space it won't be possible for the artists to move from one Green Room to another during the time when a play is on

7) No display board in Art Gallery and no light and sound arrangement too

8) No Spot Light in Art Gallery

9) For installation of sound system(at the front side of the stage) on each side it will be difficult for the audience sitting on extreme left or right side to see the artists performing on the stage

10) Two halls of 1200 seats and 300 seats were proposed to be built but the present strength of seats are 940 and 200 respectively.

 Knowing about these irregularities about the last moment a high level team of Urban Development Department led by Director Tapas Roy rushed to Udaipur and learnt to have held meetings with MLA Madhab Saha, ADM, Gomati L T Darlong, Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson of Udaipur Municipal Council . The meeting continued till evening. Urban Development Minister Manik Dey too was scheduled to visit the complex but knowing about the irregularities from his department officials the Minister did not make his present. However, Vice Chairman of Udaipur Municipal Council Ranjan Krishna Das told TIWN," As of now it has been decided that the Construction agency( a Kolkata based company that got sub contract from NBCC) will make the temporary reshuffling before September 6. After the inauguration the agency has assured to make all necessary reshuffling before handing over the building to the Udaipur Municipal Council." When asked about the irrepairable blunders Vice Chairman failed to make specific reply saying ," Enter lay out is with the Uraban Development Department. And there are some minor works to be done a new but for myself it is not possible to say anything specific." However, the cultural activists and common people of Udaipur have the collective view  that the inauguration is simply a farce as the situation is almost like the Gomati District Hospital which is yet to start services though inaugurated more than two years before.
