AGARTALA, August 29 (TIWN): The District and Sessions Judge Court today sent a person and his father to jail custody for 2 years under Section 498 (A)/304 (B) of IPC, for being involved in the murder of a housewife ablazing her.
Besides, the court also imposed a fine of Rs. 2,000 failing which they have to undergo jail custody for additional two months.
The duo would undergo imprisonment for 2-long years under 498 (A) and ten years rigorous imprisonment under Section 304 (B). A total of 20 witnesses placed their statements before the judge during the court procedure.
Sources said, the convicted husband Krishnakanta Das and his father used to torture Aishwarya Das, former's wife both physically and mentally for dowry from the very beginning of their wedding.
As per the report, Aishwarya, resident of West Ganaki tied the knot with Krishnakanta of Ajagartilla in the year 2010. Aishwarya’s husband ablazed her to death on February 7, 2012. In view of the incident, her father lodged a complaint against her in-laws on the basis of which the Khowai police took case against her husband, father -in-law Nishikanta Das, mother-in-law Milon Rani Das, brother-in-law Manik Das and sister-in-law Ruma Rani Das.
The court today passed verdict after a prolonged hearing. Additional Public Prosecutor Shailendra Pal and lawyer Chandan Das moved the case in favour of the government.
